LETS TALK WITH THE AUTHOR: RAVI VALLURI

Many questions arises after we a good book. here we have Mr. Ravi Valluri. Valluri sir is the author of HEARTBREAK COFFEE SHOP: An array of tales. Lets see what he said about his journey.


1. What is the first book that made you cry?

I will not say that I shed copious tears , but some books moved me. Certain books have evoked an emotional response . I would name Somerset Maugham's Razor's Edge , Irving Stone's Lust for Life , Gandhiji's The Story of My Experiments with Truth , Autobiography of a Yogi , Walter Issacson's Steve Jobs.

2. Does writing energize or exhaust you?

It is exhilarating experience as writing invigorates a person's mind.

3. Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

I have written original material but definitely inspired by events , people and other authors and have received good response. To begin with all my works were non fiction. But now I have begun writing human stories. I intend to write fiction , novellas , short stories and novels. This would pander to the demands of the readers , but I do not intend to compromise on my way of narration which moves to and fro , nota linear way of writing and also with plenty of drama , inrigue , twists and turns. Another area I wish to write travelogues.

4. If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?

Bring the aha moment in writing . The element of surprise and drama is essential. Writing is a voyage where in an author discovers himself.

5. What’s your favorite under-appreciated novel?

The Insider by PV Narasimha Rao.

6. How do you balance making demands on the reader with taking care of the reader?

The pulse of the reader keeps changing as I make foray in writing. I have realised that I need to write more of fiction while discovering the human mind in a simpler manner.

7. What does literary success look like to you?

It gives a literary high and motivates to write more.

8. What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?

I have read Indian Mythology , the knowledge Sheets of H. H. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar , books on Zen. These have provided a bed rock . Apart from biographies which I like .

I am planning to delve into psychology and other aspects of human mind to give a cutting edge to the characters. Reading newspapers like The Hindu , Times of India and Indian Express provides one with current information.

And I meditate listening to H. H. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar . This helps me to discover my characters. A different style of reseach. Looking at human characters and their life stories also is a form of research.

9. How many hours a day do you write?

I belong to the Indian Railway Traffic Service and am currently posted as the Principal Chief Operations Manager , North Central Railway, Prayagraj. It is a hectic job. So I am able to devote around 90 min to 2 hours a day for writing. But the idea is to write 700 to 800 words a day.

10. Do you read your book reviews? How do you deal with bad or good ones?

At times . It is interesting to get a get a feedback.

11. If you didn’t write, what would you do for work?

Writing is my passion . I cannot fore-sake that , besides working for the Art of Living .
